Comments:
This exciting wine (Moshin 2004 Pinot Noir 115 Clone) is one of three very similar Pinots made by Moshin, with a delicate spice note that adds interest to red cherry/strawberry fruit and delicate hints of jam and clove. Superb structure, so I expect it will age nicely for a decade.

Westside story/Russian River Valley Veterans Raise the Standard for Pinot Noir
"2004 Moshin Vineyards Lot 4 Selection Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
($35) Texture separates great Pinot Noir from the good, and this wine's
mouthfeel is gorgeous -- soft yet substantial, with clean blueberry and
black cherry fruit, brown spice, balanced tannins and refreshing acidity.
It should age nicely."Click here to read the full article

Exceptional: 2004 Moshin Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, Clone 115 ($45)
A delicate spice note adds interest to red cherry/strawberry fruit. Faint hints of jam and clove in the finish. Great structure, so it should age beautifully. Limited.
2004 Moshin Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley ($28)
A bit closed, but it has lovely strawberry and cherry nuances. Excellent balance.
2003 Moshin Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, Lot 4 ($30) Developed aroma of raspberry and strawberry, silky entry, succulent taste. Rick calls it “more feminine.” The wine has the richness to work with medium-weight beef dishes.

Comments:
We have been honored with an invitation to re-attend the prestigious fifteenth annual Taste of Vail in Vail, Colorado in April 2005. Last year Rick and Amber had a wonderful time meeting people from all over the world, either in the wine business or wine lovers. Only 50 of the world's most noted vintners are asked to attend. We are proud to have been invited again and look forward with great anticipation to pour our wines in such an amazing landscape as Vail. Once again, there will be something for everyone at this event, including not only wine tastings and discussions but also cigar and bourbon tastings, coffee and cheese seminars and many luncheons and dinners prepared by world-renowned chefs. If you would like to attend this event, go to tasteofvail.com. Hope to see you there!

Wine Questions and Answers for Wine Conoisseurs
Comments:
Ratings and values are based on a 100-Point Scale. "I highly suggest people try the 2002 Bowman Vineyard Moshin Zinfandel out of California. It is one of the most incredible, flavorful Zins I have tasted. Stawberries, bing cherries with an elegant vanilla/caramel finish. Act fast, because they only produced 200 cases."

"On Wine" Wine Recommendations by Dave Buchanan
Comments:
"Already being unabashed pinot noir-philes, we headed right to the tables under that banner, where we met Rick Moshin, owner and winemaker of Moshin Vineyards in Healdsburg, CA., which is in Sonoma County along the Russian River, an area gaining a tremendous reputation for producing lush, complex and totally delicious pinot noirs. Rick Moshin might be the poster boy for why this area is riding such a crest of popularity buoyed by world-class wines. A family owned and operated vineyard and winery, Moshin carefully monitors every step of the winemaking process from planting the best clones to using only naturally-occurring yeast in what's a generally hands-off wine-making process. "Our goal is to make the best pinot noir in the world and keep it affordable," said Moshin, who also produces a syrah, a merlot, and a zinfandel. His well-received pinot is a European-style Burgundy, subtle yet well-balanced and very food-friendly. He refuses to produce his Proprietor's Select pinot noir when the grapes don't meet his strictest standards. Only 540 cases of his 2000 Pinot Noir Proprietor's Select were made and yet at $28 per bottle, it's within everyone's reach. "I don't expect to get rich doing this, I only expect to produce great wines everyone can drink," said Moshin, who this year will start work on a new three-tier, gravity-flow winery.

Gil Whiteley "Starting a wine collection? Focus your efforts on reds"
Comments:
"....light-to-medium-bodied reds, such as Pinot Noir...work well with simply prepared red meats without heavy sauces. Grilled chicken, pork, lamb, or even hamburgers are perfect with light-to- medium-bodied red wines. A couple of specific suggestions:....Moshin Vineyards 2002 Pinot Noir (berries and spice) is soft and not pretentious."

Upcoming Winemaker's Dinner on Dec. 18th in Forestville
Comments:
"Stella's Cafe has an easy answer for [the holidays]: let chef/owner Greg Hamilton and winemaker Richard Moshin of Moshin Vineyards do the cooking. The cafe's "Winemaker's Dinner" is a gourmand's delight. It begins with Dungeness crab cakes drizzled with lemon aioli complemented by a refined Chardonnay. Next up is Moroccan rubbed lamb loin over saffron rice with Moshin's 2000 Merlot. Short ribs are braised in [Moshin's] 2000 Cabernet for the main course; it's served with smoked tomatoes over polenta that uses Moshin's award-winning Syrah as a base. Pears poached in [Moshin's] 2001 Zinfandel and dipped in white chocolate should just about finish anybody off. With a menu this mouthwatering, reservations are strongly recommended. Dec. 18th, 5:30pm. Stella's Cafe, Highway 116 and Guerneville Road. $69. 707.823.6637."

2001 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Comments:
"[Moshin Vineyards 2001 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is ] a lovely wine with impressively delicate, subtle aromas and flavors. The light color and relatively low density suggests something wimpy is on the way, but you'll find that the wine is very expressive, offering lots of juicy cherry and strawberry fruit aromas and flavors. Pure and beautifully balanced, this is very impressive."
